LAO’s Bike Rides        (Spring & Fall)

Late summer of 2006 13 Metro Detroit Congregations representing 7 Circuits (Downriver, Dearborn, Livonia, Kensington, Northern Oakland, Macomb, Macomb NW) and the English District, under the coordination of the LAO planned 4 bike rides in various Metro Parks, Hinds Drive and Rails for Trails. Hope to see you there!

Please find attached an INSERT in your weekly bulletin OR your congregational news letter.

It does not matter if you are Single or a Couple, a Family or a Youth Group we would like you to come and join us. Whether you ride a bike, push a stroller or walk behind a child using training wheels, come join your Brothers and Sisters in Christ in one or more of the following bike rides.

"Standard" Operating Procedure (SOP): Spring rides will fluctuate with Easter and will not conflict with Memorial Day!

Itinerary:

  • 7:00 am -         Check LAO Bike Ride Web Page for Weather, hour by hour forcast. (LORD willing, the above Ride calendar will be updated with the appropriated color code by 7:00 am)
      • If Raining or the RealFeel® temperature is less than 50° F consider ride rescheduled for the following week.
      • Ride will only be rescheduled once per season
  • 9:00 am -         Arrive at the Park
  • 9:30 am -         Bikes unloaded and potty break completed
  • 9:45 am -         Announcements, Instructions, Devotions
  • 10:00 am -       Feet on Pedals
  • 12:00 am -       B.Y.O. Picnic

General Information:

  • Each ride will have at least 3 levels of difficulty: ~2, ~6 & > 10 mile courses available.
  • Bring you own picnic lunch

Cyclists are advised to wear helmets. At Kensington they are REQUIRED

 

Where:

Paint Creek Trail - Crushed Gravel Rail Road Bed
  Meeting Point: Rochester Municipal Park, North Parking Lot. (Select map upper right hand corner)
  Trail Map: Alternate Map (Use for Map Quest Directions)

OPTIONS: This is a down and back trail so you can turn around at any time.

  • ~ 3/4 to 2 miles: From the North Parking Lot of  Rochester Municipal Park (RMP) to Tienken Road Picnic Area
  • ~ 6 miles: From the North Parking Lot of  RMP to Goodison Area and back
  • ~ 16 miles: From the North Parking Lot of  RMP to Lake Orion Area and back

Kensington - Paved Bike Paths + Off Road
  Meeting Point: West Boat Launch. (Select Willow Maps-Full Park lower left corner)
   Location: closest entrance @ Kensington Road

OPTIONS: 4 depending on age and ability!

  • ~ 3/4 to 2 miles:        West Boat Launch clockwise to picnic area “K” and back stopping at the Nature Center.
  • ~ 8.2 miles:        West Boat Launch counters clockwise.  Optional ½ stop at Petting Farm.
  • ~ 10 miles ROAD & 6 (+) mile off road: West boat counter clockwise to River Bend with optional distance OFF ROAD
  • ~ 18 mile ROAD:

Hines Drive - Road Way Closed for Riding
  Meeting Point: Nankin-Mills Parking lot. Lower right hand area of MAP
  Access from Ann Arbor Trail onto Hines Drive in Livonia, Mi.

OPTIONS: This is a down and back trail so you can turn around at any time

  • ~ 1 to 2 miles: Nankin-Mills East 1 mile to Merriman Hollow and Back (Stop and play on play ground)
  • ~ 6 miles: Nankin-Mills East 3 mile to Perrin Field and Back
  • ~ 14 + miles: Nankin-Mills East 6+ miles to Outer Drive and Back.

Willow - Paved Bike Paths
  Meeting Point: Fox Meadows, AREA E. (Select Willow Maps-Full Park lower left corner).

OPTIONS: 4 depending on age and ability!

  • ~ 2.5 miles:
  • ~ 7 miles: Fox Meadows Optional ½ way stop at Nature Center at Oakwood
  • ~ 12 miles: Fox Meadows Optional ½ way stop at Lower Huron
  • ~ 20 miles: Fox Meadows Optional ½ way stop at Lower Huron
