All Groups
Welcome to the ALL GROUPS page
of the Lutheran Activities Organization. LAO,
as it is called, is a nation wide Christian Network providing
members of the LCMS with
a mechanism to develop Christian friendships within and outside
their home congregation. The activities, outings or
retreats on this page span across two or more of the “target” demographics
(Families, Kids
Club, Jr. Youth, Youth, Seniors, Singles,
or Sportsman) and thus is OPEN
to ALL.
What
do you consider when planning an activity, outing or
vacation?
- Where
to go?
- When
to go?
- What
to do when you get there?
- What
will it cost me?
All in all these are typical questions. But where
does the LORD fit you’re your vacation plans? How
does your preparation differ from that of a non-Christian? What
if you could participate in an activity, outing or vacation
to a destination you were going anyway and when you arrived
you found yourself surrounded by brothers and sisters in
Christ?
LAO wants
to be that resource that provides you with the opportunity
to connect with other Lutheran Christians, locally or nationally,
with similar interests and demographics to build relationships
that will be beneficial to your Christian walk.
Amusement Parks
Many Churches plan an annual outing to the local amusement
parks, Cedar Point, Kings
Island, Six
Flags, etc. So why not plan far enough in advance
so all of the LCMS Churches within a Circuit or District
go on the same day. At least one District already does
that for Cedar Point.
But the next question is, “Why stop there?”
Long-term vision:
- All District post their Date on the LAO website so vacationing
Brothers and Sisters in Christ could use this information
to plan their vacation.
- Long-term vision: Plan a national Amusement Park Day
so that nation wide all LCMS Churches go on the same day
In the metro Detroit Area of the Michigan District Rides
are offered in the spring and fall annually.
- Spring rides will be the 1st, 3rd, 5th and 7th Saturday’s
after Easter.
- Fall Rides will be the 1st, 3rd, 5th and 7th Saturday’s
after Labor Day Weekend Observed.
- If it is raining at 7:00am at the park consider the ride
rescheduled for the following week. Bike Ride web
page has weather links for each location.
- If your congregation, or the congregations in your circuit,
would like to sponsor a ride please contact LAO
Some Churches plan an annual camping outing. They
take a long weekend, within a “reasonable” drive
time from their home congregation, and plan a worship service
at the campground. What happens if you attend a church
that doesn’t have a camping weekend? You are
on the outside looking in. So why not plan far enough in
advance such that any of the members of LCMS Churches within
a Circuit or District can could participate?
Long-term vision:
- All District post their “Camping Dates” on
the LAO website so vacationing Brothers and Sisters in
Christ could use this information to plan their vacation.
- Plan national camping weeks at national parks every 3
or 4 years.
Are you considering going “OUT WEST” any time
soon? How does A-Basin Breckenridge, Copper
Mountain, Keystone,
and Vail sound
to you?
